Avianca signs firm order for four Airbus A330 Freighter aircraft

Avianca, part of the airline group AviancaTaca Holdings, has signed a firm order for four Airbus A330-200 Freighter aircraft. The new aircraft will be operated by Avianca’s cargo subsidiary Tampa. Avianca will announce its engine choice at a later date.
The highly-efficient and versatile A330-200 Freighter will replace Tampa’s current cargo fleet and play a key role in expanding Avianca’s international cargo business. The order will make Avianca the first operator to receive the A330-200 Freighter in Latin America. AviancaTaca and its subsidiaries already operate seven A330-200 passenger aircraft and 81 A320 Family aircraft.
“As an existing operator of seven A330 passenger aircraft, we are confident that these new A330 Freighters will bring us greater fuel efficiency, lower operating costs and improved environmental performance,” said Fabio Villegas, CEO of AviancaTaca Holdings and President of Avianca. “We couldn’t be more proud that our cargo airline Tampa will be the first A330 Freighter operator in Latin America.”
“In addition to being a top-performing and cost-efficient aircraft, this new-generation, mid-size freighter can profitably serve both hot and high destinations and longer transcontinental flights without sacrificing payload,” said John Leahy, Airbus COO Customers. “Airbus is pleased that AviancaTaca and its subsidiaries will be first in Latin America to benefit from the outstanding economics and proven track record of the A330 Freighter.”
The A330-200F, which has just celebrated a successful first year of efficient operation, can carry up to 70 tonnes of payload and offer a range of up to 4,000nm. Eight A330-200F freighters are now flying with four operators in the Middle East, Europe and Asia. To date, 61 freighter aircraft have been ordered by 10 customers

Boeing, ANA Celebrate First 787 Dreamliner Delivery

Boeing [NYSE: BA] celebrated the delivery of the first 787 Dreamliner today to launch customer ANA during a ceremony adjacent to the factory where the airplane was assembled. More than 500 employees representing the 787 program walked alongside the all-new jetliner to present it to ANA executives as a crowd of thousands looked on.

"Today we celebrate a significant moment in the history of flight," said Jim McNerney, Boeing chairman, president and CEO. "The 787 Dreamliner is the biggest innovation in commercial aviation since the Boeing 707 introduced the world to passenger jet travel more than 50 years ago. I want to thank ANA and all the employees of Boeing and our partner companies for the talent, technology and teamwork that have brought this game-changing airplane to life."

During the ceremony, Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Jim Albaugh presented a ceremonial key to Shinichiro Ito, president and CEO of ANA.

"It's not often that we have the chance to make history, do something big and bold that will change the world in untold ways and endure long after we are gone," said Albaugh. "That's what the 787 Dreamliner is and what ANA and Boeing have done together – build what truly is the first new airplane of the 21st century."

"We are delighted to be taking delivery finally of our first 787. ANA is extremely proud to be the launch customer for the Dreamliner and to have helped Boeing so closely in the development of this state-of-the-art aircraft," said Ito. "The Dreamliner will enable us to offer unrivalled standards of service and comfort to our passengers and will play a key part in ANA's plans for international expansion."

Made from composite materials, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is the first mid-size airplane capable of flying long-range routes and will allow airlines to open new, non-stop routes preferred by the traveling public. In addition to providing airlines with unprecedented fuel economy and low operating costs, the 787 features a host of new technologies that greatly enhance the passenger experience.

"Today you join the ranks of the legends of our industry," said Pat Shanahan, Boeing Commercial Airplanes vice president and general manager, Airplane Programs. "I have no doubt that 30 or 40 years from now another outstanding Boeing team will be celebrating a new version of the 787 Dreamliner. They will struggle to find the words to express their deep respect and admiration for the hard work you have done in getting us to this day and laying the foundation for a strong future for Boeing and for our industry."

"I've been inspired by your passion, your commitment and your dedication. You made the 787 Dreamliner a reality," said Scott Fancher, Boeing Commercial Airplanes vice president and general manager, 787 program. "Your achievement we celebrate today is extraordinary, and it will be remembered for years to come."

ANA and Boeing completed the contractual delivery of the airplane on Sept. 25. ANA will fly the airplane to Tokyo Haneda Airport on Tuesday, with a scheduled departure of 6:35 a.m. (Pacific time) from Paine Field. A live webcast of the flyaway can be seen at www.newairplane.com. Video highlights of all 787 first delivery events also will be posted to the website.

Embraer delivered the first EMBRAER 190 jet to Alitalia, today, in a ceremony at the manufacturer’s headquarters in São José dos Campos, Brazil. This aircraft is part of an order announced in March 2011 for five EMBRAER 190 and 15 EMBRAER 175 jets by the Italian airline, and will be operated through a leasing agreement with Air Lease Corporation, based in the U.S.

The airline’s 100-seat EMBRAER
190 is configured in a single class. The aircraft will be used on Alitalia’s domestic and European network, out of seven airports: Rome Fiumicino, Milan Linate, Milan Malpensa, Turin, Venice, Naples, and Catania.

Alitalia was one of the first E-Jet operators, when it took delivery of the EMBRAER 170 for its Express division, in 2004. The 20 new aircraft will progressively replace Alitalia’s existing fleet of regional aircraft, and play a key role in developing the carrier’s ability to provide nonstop flights to short and medium haul destinations, while ensuring higher efficiency, lower emissions, and top-quality service.

Since they entered revenue service in 2004, Embraer has delivered over 800 E-Jets to 60 companies from 40 countries around the world. The versatile 70 to 120-seat four-aircraft family is flying with low cost airlines, regional services, and mainline carriers.

EMBRAER ENTREGA 800º E-JET PARA A CHINA CDB LEASING / EMBRAER DELIVERS 800th E-JET TO CHINA CDB LEASING

Embraer’s E-Jets program reaches a significant milestone with the delivery of the 800th aircraft – an EMBRAER 190 in a tripartite ceremony held today at the Company’s headquarters in São José dos Campos, Brazil, between Embraer, the aircraft’s recipient CDB Leasing Co., Ltd. (CLC), and the jet’s operator China Southern Air Holding Xinjiang Company, a subsidiary of China Southern Airlines, which is the largest airline in Asia and the fourth in the world in terms of traffic volume. The milestone was attained less than one year after the 700th E-Jet was delivered last November 2010.

The aircraft, the third EMBRAER 190 to be operated by China Southern Airlines, will join the airlines’ EMBRAER 190 fleet in China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, which is expected to reach seven EMBRAER 190s by the end of this year. In accordance with current plan, taking advantage of the EMBRAER 190’s seating capacity and range performance, the fleet will support the operator to implement both domestic and international routes, including regional routes inside Xinjiang region, some hot routes eastbound from Xinjiang’s Urumqi, and some international routes to neighboring countries, as well, to assist the operator to expand its air transport network and increase its market share by building a hub and spoke network with convenient high-frequency schedules.
